Twycross Zoo

Twycross Zoo

Twycross zoo is known the world over as being home to an extensive number of primates, including monkeys, apes and the UK’s only group of bonobos. The zoo themselves say that they are proud to provide a nurturing environment for the many endangered primate species that they house.

For those with children, of particular interest may be the fact that Twycross Zoo regularly put on special events in which children and babies mix with the orang utan and bonobo groups.

The grounds themselves span over 80 acres, throughout which there are around 900 different animals incorporating over 160 species. When you visit you may want to ensure that you experience the new walk-through enclosure, where you can see the giant tortoises sunbathing in their new grass area, as well as penguins who may be on their daily walk!

The Twycross Zoo Keepers can be found throughout the enclosure and put on frequent talks and feeds where you and your children can learn more about the animals. So respected are these talks that the Zoo has been awarded with many prestigious educational awards. Just one of the many accolades it then has to its name is the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge, which was granted to recognise the Zoo’s commitment to linking their sessions to the UK’s curriculum, specifically focussing on the ways that children can be most engaged with learning about the animal kingdom.
